A Year in Review

Dear Members of the Kite and Key Society,

As 2015 comes to a close, I feel so lucky to have been able to serve as your President. Over the last 12 months, this board has led Kite and Key through so many key transitions and groundbreaking initiatives, and I’m so happy to recap and share these with you all:

We created an extensive, comprehensive website. We revamped and printed out hard-copy training manuals for the first time in many years. We fully integrated the Cultural Resource Centers into our training process and taught all members how to better show underrepresented groups that they too belong at Penn. We held the first ever Kite and Key Senior Banquet in April. We welcomed our new members into the Society both semesters through New Member Receptions. We dissolved program divisions and admitted our newest Fall 2015 Class into Kite and Key as a whole, serving the university in multiple and all facets. We volunteered for ConnectED Days, wrote postcards to newly admitted Regular Decision students, hosted students for Quaker Days, welcomed past graduates back at Alumni Weekend, coordinated student volunteering for Commencement, welcomed prospective students to Penn for PEEP (Penn Early Exploration Program), and guided Penn parents and families around campus for Family Weekend. We introduced West Philadelphia elementary students to Penn through the College Day program, we had current freshmen take on more active leadership in the Society through the Class Liaisons program, and ultimately, we showed over 80,000 visitors why we’re so excited to call Penn home.

We saw more Kite and Key spirit – we now have Kite and Key quarter zips, amazing new Rewards Program items, and people who are now more proud than ever to say they’re a part of the Kite and Key Society. And we admitted our most competitive applicant classes in the club’s 90+ year history – seeing around 300 applicants in 2015 and admitting around 20% of those members.

Once again, thank you all so much for making our jobs so exciting. At this time, I’m so proud to introduce the 2016 Executive Board, and I have the utmost confidence that Meredith Kline and the rest of these individuals will continue this amazing trend of Kite and Key initiatives. Without further adieu, here are the newest Kite and Key Society Executive Board Members:

Congratulations Julie Clanahan (C'15)!

Kite and Key would like to congratulate Julie Clanahan (C'15), this year's recipient for the William A. Levi award!

This award is presented to a senior member of the Kite and Key Society who embodies the legacy and the spirit of William A. Levi, who while a student at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of Kite and Key contributed distinguished service to the University and the student body at large, while maintaining academic excellence.

Congratulations Julie, and thank you for your service. We wish you all the best for the future!
